Bible Studies for the Deaf

Every Sabbath afternoon (Saturday) at 4pm our church has started to have Bible Studies for the deaf and hearing-impaired. They are conducted in British Sign Language and are just another way of bringing God's good news to everyone in our community.

If you know of anyone who is deaf and would like to learn more about the Bible and Jesus, please invite them to our church at 428 Lewisham High Street, SE16 6LJ or they can send a text message to 07939 584 377 for more details.

Our Children Helping Those In Need

ADRA UK is a charity organisation that helps people in different areas of the world who are in need of development and relief and also in times of disaster. The current projects that they are undertaking are reducing poverty in Myanmar, helping famers in Burkina Faso and helping people with special needs get access to services in the United Kingdom.

Each year our church raises money for ADRA UK during the annual Ingathering appeal in April and May and we've always done an amazing job of raising many thousands of pounds with the assistance of our local community, friends and families.

In addition to that, this year some of our children took part in a special sponsored ride to help in the fundraising initiative. It took place at Ladywell fields and they were successful in raising over £120.

We're grateful for the dedicated and unselfish young people that we have who have done what they can to assist others less fortunate than them.

Pathfinders Spreading The Word

To help spread the word in our local community, our Pathfinders and Adventurers were recently out distributing leaflets for the ongoing series of meetings in Downham. Our youth were out in full force and happy to assist so that our neighbours in Downham and the surrounding areas would know of the timely and interesting messages that Pastor Hart and the other speakers are delivering nightly on the theme of 'Your Future Revealed'.

Here are some photos from the day. Don't they look happy to be helping?

If you have not yet visited the Downham church or invited a friend, neighbour or family member to the meetings you still have time. They end this Saturday in a grand finale. Make sure to take the time to attend and invite someone to be there.

Children at the Farm - Happy Birthday KJ!

Some of our younger children went to visit Surrey Docks Farm in Surrey Quays and had a great time! Surrey Docks Farm is a working farm in the city and it has both animals being reared and plants being grown. The children were able to see, touch and interact with the animals and it looks like they had a great time. It's not every day they are able to be close to goats, lambs, pigs or ferrets!

That day was also little KJ Howard's first birthday, so they had a little 'party' for him complete with cake and gift from the Children's Sabbath School department.

Youth Week of Prayer and Baptism

We recently had a Youth Week of Prayer and Revival with a difference! There were two inspiring speakers who flew in to be with us, and share God's word. During the first week we had Pastor Marquis Johns who shared his unique story and slant on the word to deliver some deep messages. In the second week we had Pastor Alex Royes who encouraged us to connect with Jesus and re-commit to Him. At the end of the second week there was a baptism, and we were glad that so many persons decided to commit their lives to Jesus in that way. Here are are some photos from the week of prayer and baptism.

Lewisham Youth Awarded

Youth from Lewisham were recently given special recognition for the good work they have done for the community by a visiting dignitary.

Her Majesty's Lieutenant of the City of London was at Lewisham Seventh-day Adventist church on Saturday February 23 to recognise work done by the youth.

Simon Duckworth presented certificates of recognition to those who had acted as stewards or played with the drum corps during the 2012 Olympics. He made the presentation on behalf of Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham.

He not only recognised the good work the church's youth did during the 2012 Olympics but urged them to continue with work that benefits the community as part of the Pathfinder club. Mr Duckworth was at Lewisham church for the group's annual Investiture day, where the returning members were given a charge at the beginning of their next stage in the group and the club's new members inducted.

During his speech he mentioned that he was happy to see whole families as well as youth in attendance at the church service and remarked that our society would be all the better for it if more of people would follow their example. He was also proud to see the Union Jack flying along with the flag of the Pathfinder club.

Well done!

Family Fun Takeaway resources

Yesterday's Family Week got off to a great start, and one of the suprises the Family Life team had for us was a 'Family Fun Take Away' bag.

In it was a booklet with interesting and fun things to do together as a family as well as ideas, thoughts and activites.

For those of you who weren't able to get a bag, or if you just weren't there, you can still get some of the great resources which were inclosed.

One of the activities included in the bag was how to create a puppet. Here is a video that shows more details on how to do this.

And here is a copy of the great booklet that was inclosed for you to read and enjoy.

See you on Wednesday at 6:30 for the movie night!
