Lewisham Youth Impacting Their Community

The Lewisham youth began the Youth Week of Prayer on the 11th March 2023 with its Youth Day. The theme for the week was “Love ls A Verb”. Our speaker was none other than Pastor Dewaine Fazer and Pastor Bright Agyeman-Baar who ended the week. On the 11th March we welcomed our missing youth and those from all parts of London. The question is asked – what is love in action? Is it a feeling, is it an action or something we just say? No, it is doing, it is sharing, it is giving back to our families, friends and our community just as Jesus showed us while on earth and dying on the cross. They were filled both spiritually and physically. The day ended with the young people getting together having a social of good fun and games.

Pastor Fazer rocked the week; the young people came out each night to listen to the man of God deliver the word of God.

Friday night – oh what a night – Praise and Worship at it’s best. Lewisham’s Praise team, came together with Croydon and Greenwich Praise teams, to lift God up in songs, poetry and prayer.

Pastor Agyeman-Baar delivered a word which bought the young people to the alter. With visiting pastors in the congregation and our elders, they prayed with the youth as they came to the front.

Global Youth Day 18th March brought the climax of the week to an end , with the youth out in the community, showing what love is all about. Youth out into the community? Yes, in their numbers. The Pathfinders also joined in covering part of their curriculum under serving others. The youth split into four groups. Some went into Catford to interact with members of the public asking, "What (to them) is love in action?" The youth along with the TLT’s (Teens in Leadership Training) also spoke with the police who were happy to hear what they where about and doing. Others attended a care home to minister in songs and add words of comfort, some to our shut-ins, and others stayed at church where hot chocolate and tea was given out to passers by with a smile, music and a welcoming word. Each shut-in home visited and the care home were presented with a fruit basket from the youth department.

It was a glorious week we give God thanks. We thank God for our youth, the leaders of today.  Let us continue to lift them up in our prayers. It’s not an easy road, but God is good all the time.
